PASTA AU GRATIN
Yesterday evening i was too lethargic to make a complete meal, hence was thinking to make something heavy yet without spending much time in the kitchen. Hence the idea of gratin with pasta struck me! Pasta tends to add an amazing taste to the cheesy white sauce in the gratin! Needless to say, the result was yummylicious..:)
Its a complete meal and is suited best for a pleasant or rainy evening!

Its a complete meal and is suited best for a pleasant or rainy evening!
Serves 2
Ingredients:
For the white sauce-
- Plain flour- 3 tbsp
- Butter- 3 tbsp
- Milk- 2.5 cups (room temperature, else lumps would form)
- Cheese slice- 1
- Pinch of sugar
- Salt, freshly ground black pepper and oregano to taste
For the Gratin-
- Spirali pasta- 8 pieces (yes, i counted and added just 8 pieces!!)
- Finely cubed large carrot- 1
- Finely chopped french beans- 8
- American corn- 1/2 cup
- Grated cheese cubes for topping- 2 (or more, if you can burn the calories!!)
Method:
For the white sauce-
- Heat butter in a non stick pan and saute the plain flour till aroma comes.
- Slowly add the milk, stirring constantly so that no lumps are formed.
- Add sugar, salt, pepper, oregano and cheese slice, mix well.
- Keep aside.
For the gratin-
- Boil the pasta with a little olive oil, drain and keep aside.
- In a pan of boiling water add all the vegetables with a little salt and let it boil for 5-7 minutes, till the carrots and beans become tender.
- Keep aside.
Then,
- Put the white sauce on low flame and add the boiled pasta, boiled vegetables and some more salt if needed. (Little milk can be added if the mixture becomes too dry!)
- Mix it carefully so that the pasta doesnt break.
- Grease an oven proof bowl and dish out the mixture into it.
- Cover the top with grated cheese and bake in a microwave on high power for 5 minutes or till the cheese browns.
- Serve hot, with or without garlic bread.
